Our friendship began in college, and at the risk of revealing our ages, that was roughly 20 years ago. You might say that we were destined to start an apparel business together, having painted countless t-shirts to wear to various fraternity theme parties. But, we had a few other things to do before bringing this business to life, such as enjoying all that New York City has to offer while establishing our careers in Marketing (Eileen) and Journalism (Elise). Oh, plus getting married and having children. After staying home with our kids for many years, we got a little restless and realized we had home renovations (Eileen) and a wardrobe (Elise) to fund. We decided to go into business together and figured we should do something that focused on what we were both immersed in: motherhood. We love being moms, but we experience the same frustrations, difficulties (and yes, of course, joys) that other moms go through. We figured that if we embroidered apparel with lines that share our somewhat irreverent view of motherhood, then other moms would embrace it. And, they have! (as proof, Eileen has a beautiful new kitchen, and Elise has some nice new duds.) Planet Mom has been a terrific adventure for us. We love hearing from our customers, and the feedback we've received has truly helped and inspired us. (Our kids also inspire us, but more in a "Whine? No. Wine? Yes." kind of way.)
